Filipino Martial Arts (Kali / Eskrima) is an extremely effective and battle-tested weapons-based system. The bulk of your training in this art will be with weapons such as the stick, knife, and empty-handed (weapon vs. no weapon). Training heightens the student’s awareness of their surroundings and teaches them to make use of their environment for tools of combat.

This art will also increase your empty hand skills by supercharging such attributes as coordination, perception, and awareness. One of the main goals of training in this system is to give you the ability to pick up everyday objects and use them to your advantage. Everyday items such as car keys, an umbrella, the chair you’re sitting on, or even the jacket you’re wearing, become effective means of self-defense in the hands of an Anderson’s Martial Arts student. There is no substitute for the confidence that comes from knowing you can handle whatever may happen.

We also teach various empty hand systems that are taken from this dynamic and functional art. The training methods of the Filipino Martial Arts will tighten the student’s awareness of their surrounding area. Developed for “mass attack” as well as single opponent confrontations, this art is an essential part of AMAA’s self-defense curriculum.
*As in every class, we typically have multiple instructors helping and guiding our students.

There is no substitute for the confidence that comes from knowing you can handle what ever may happen. Use of left and right hand techniques develop coordination. Drills and techniques taught in a fluid, non-restrictive manner allow students to enhance their natural attributes and improve their sense of timing, speed, awareness, balance, agility, and confidence.

WHERE HAVE I SEEN KALI?

Martial Arts Weapon Training at Anderson’s Martial Arts It has been utilized in different military/government combat training camps, including Navy Seals, Marines, CIA, FBI, DEA.

Movies Featuring Kali

It has also been widely used in many popular action movies such as:

  • The Bourne Identity, Supremacy, Ultamatum & Legacy (Matt Damon)
  • Mission Impossible (Tom Cruise)
  • Resident Evil (Milla Jovovich)
  • The Book of Eli (Denzel Washington)
  • Spartacus (Showtime Series)
  • Star Wars (Episode I, II & III)

There is a major reason this art was used in the movies above: because it works. Not only does it look good on camera, but it’s effectivness is battle-tested in real life situations. Books, keys, pens, and other everyday props can become very dangerous weapons in the hands of a trained Kali student.

Kali stems from the Phillipines and has many different arts/forms. Anderson’s Martial Arts teaches the Inosanto Lacoste method which is a blend of 26 different styles of Kali. Anderson’s Martial Arts is the only school in New York City that is certified to teach this method of Kali.

The method itself was created by Guro Dan Inosanto. Sifu Dan Anderson, head instructor of Filipino Kali classes at Anderson’s Martial Arts Academy, is certified by Guro Inosanto to teach the Inosanto Lacoste method.
